Meet Carol Stanley, #Health Guru – @carolee1

Hello, bloggers!

It’s time to share my blog with another fabulous guest! Please help me welcome Carol Stanley! Much like me, Carol is a lady with many passions, plus she has the skills to go along with them. As always, enjoy…

I feel very blessed to have a wide variety of interests that have often led to one of my many enterprises. I have had many businesses in the past years, and jokingly my husband has claimed we could paper a wall with all my business cards.

Though I have been a part of many art and marketing type jobs including a gift basket business for 20 years I have always had this great passion for staying healthy. A few bragging rights here—I created and delivered gift baskets to two of our presidents. I have gleaned a lot of information regarding health and wellness from reading books and now of course the vast internet. The internet is an amazing place but deserves careful researching on any topic. It is always a good idea to check out the legitimacy of each site before quoting information.

I think it is prudent for me to say we live a world of GMO foods, and isles of prepared “mystery” foods in grocery stores. So any little thing we can do to take advantage of natural fresh foods for our bodies has to be positive. If you are eating a large percentage of foods that do not have labels you are on the right path.

I am excited about my new book venture and sharing what I have learned throughout the years—about promoting healthy choices. Though my book is geared for baby boomers all the advice works for adults of any age. My goal is to make one boomer a little healthier each day. I know I will not reach and influence everyone, as the act of changing already set habits is no easy feat. I think my desire about healthy choices became really intense when I reached boomer age. I have witnessed too many friends and family gulping down prescription drugs that often offer only a bandaid solution to a health issue. The dependency on prescription drugs can often creates a carelessness about serious healthy eating. If the pill keeps taking care of the problem why worry is often the attitude?

Do you remember when going out to eat and there was only one menu with no variance. Occasionally some restaurants may have had one low calorie selection. Today the menu often has —-sodium free, gluten free, sugar free, fat free along with a vegan and vegetarian diet and perhaps a Paleo selection. The big question here after all these selections—“are we any healthier today”? It seems to me there are more health problems emerging than ever before. We rarely eat out so when we do, I eat whatever I want. So eating out on occasion is good for the soul, good conversation and a day away from the kitchen. Restaurants cook food to taste good and want you to return. They often have no qualms about adding sugar, salt and tasty fats to enhance each dish.

What gives me the right to write about this topic.

First and foremost I practice what I preach, and have found some easy solutions for my family. I read mostly well respected sites with .org, .edu in the URL. I have written over 500 articles on health, wellness and healthy recipes for Demand Media and Skyword. When I read a particular fact regarding health or nutrition and see this fact appear many times I start to respect. My goal is to keep everything simple, easy and include practical solutions that work. I do believe there is no magic bullet in life to achieve perfect health, but the sum total of healthy venues we add to our lives. And never to forget we all react differently to specific foods supplements, and even exercising. Since I have been seeking out natural and healthful solutions I make my own toothpaste, sunscreen, body butter, energy blend oils and cleaning products. I love the feeling that I am combatting some of the toxicity in our lives today. Eating healthy food is equal to putting quality gas in our cars—neither run well without the best.

A little more background.

I was and still am an astrologer and designed totes and clothes with my original designs. Though it was many years ago, I sold my clothes all over the United States. I hosted both a TV and radio show and entertained a variety of conventions and groups with a humorous presentation. I had a syndicated column, as well as local magazines and newspapers.

One of my favorite sayings to paraphrase is “follow your dream and if it doesn’t work out have a backup dream to pursue.”

Here is a special chocolate mousse recipe…

Most of us love recipes—especially delicious ones. Here is an easy, healthy and scrumptious favorite at my house.

*Three very ripe avocados
*1/4 cup of cacao powder (cocoa powder)
*1/4 cup of  whole milk—almond, coconut are the best.
*1 tablespoon of coconut oil
*1 tablespoon of cinnamon
*1 tablespoon of cointreau (optional)

Blend the ingredients until very smooth. Put in glass bowl and chill for one hour. Add sprinkled walnuts or fresh raspberries if you like.

I am a big proponent of getting enough magnesium every day. This addition includes a large percentage of your daily requirement.

We eat almond butter for breakfast on whole grain toast. There is always at least 2 inches of oil at the top. This oil is difficult to blend with the rest of the butter. I add sesame seeds, chopped walnuts, sunflower seeds and flax seeds until the butter is thick and easy to stir. There is great consistency and added minerals and vitamins.

I am planning to give 10 percent of the proceeds of the sale of my book to “Relay for Life” Marlena Smith.
