Where to Find Inspiration

Hello lovelies!

I’m part of several different writing groups on Facebook. I don’t participate often, but occasionally, I’ll catch a post that intrigues me. Tonight, that happened.

The post asked about story ideas and where to find inspiration. It honestly puzzled me at first. Inspiration is literally everywhere.

But then, I started thinking. I guess for some people it isn’t quite that simple. Ideas aren’t just constantly flowing as if it were as natural as breathing.

The simplest thing can create an inkling of a story for me. A dream, movie, or book. Sometimes even unintentional people watching can bring on an idea. Okay, sometimes the people watching is, in fact, intentional. People are fascinating, what can I say?

My advice to this person that poised such an interesting question? Be open to creativity. Inspiration can truly be everywhere if we’re willing to sit and listen. Brainstorm. Jot down anything and everything that comes to mind. Lastly, make Pinterest a go-to source. Writing prompts, character names, scene ideas, and so on. I use Pinterest quite often for a number of things, especially for improving my writing skills.

Tell me about you. Does inspiration come naturally for you? Do you have a favorite place to visit to help get the creativity flowing? What tips would you share with a struggling writer?

That’s all for today! Thanks so much for stopping by!! Happy reading friends!! ❤

  1. I’m like you—I see ideas in everything. On Story Empire, I just talked about David Baldacci’s advice of looking at life through a writer’s prism. It’s not enough just to observe things. You have to question them, imagine scenarios playing out in different ways, consider all the angles. If you can be a mentally-active participant instead of a passive observer of life, you’ll find inspiration everywhere.

    Great post.
